I know a few people follow me on here.. . Can someone point me to the method to backup LJ to Dreamwidth? (I thought I did it the other day, but it did not seem to take. (I want to import what was on LJ to DW,)
Go to your profile page. Select "Import Content" from the Organize dropdown menu. Click the "Start Another Import" button. Select Livejournal on the radio buttons and enter your livejournal username and password. Click "Continue".
In that case, it's not surprising that it didn't work. As they point out, you can change your password immediately after the import if you don't trust them. The importer is intended for use by people who want to import all their entries, including the locked ones.
They can't import your locked entries without password access. That's just reality.
I suppose they could implement some sort of public-only scraping, but that's not close to a complete import for most people.
If you don't want to abandon your old password, change your LJ password to a new, temporary one, then give them that, and when import is finished, change it back.
