GaFilk 2012 was a lot of fun.   I got to see a lot of Altanta area filkers that I don't normally get to see other times during the year and a few NYC area filkers whom I seem to only catch at conventions, even if they work 2-3 subway stops away from my day job.

Friday, I linked up with [info]filkferengi to get breakfast at a local resturant which is good (and not a chain).  After breakfast, we went to Morrow to do a little hike in the woods.  (Nice local park.  While mostly woods and a small nature center, the hike was nice and relaxing.)

At the hotel, I assisted [info]bedlamhouse with getting the sound system setup.  (Thank you for great sound over the con.   Both Bedlamhouse and [info]filkerdave were running the board all weekend and did a great job.)

The con opened with its usual opening cerimonies.  Intro of the guests, singing all of the verses of "For Auld Lang Syne".

Myfilk gameshow was fun as always.  When I saw whom they had on the teams, I knew it was going to be a good song at the end of the show...  (Filkerdave on one team, [info]team_banzai on the other.  (Sorry, I just don't remember who the other team members were on both teams, but I suspect someone will comment with the names.))

They were followed by the Chairman's choice concert, which this year was LAST YEAR'S Super Secret guest, Patrick Nielson Hayden and the Deaftones.   They were good.  I enjoyed their concert and I am glad they finally got their concert in, only a year late.

After their concert, the open filk took a little while to start up due to "Play It with Moxie" had their CD release party.    Open filk got started in the main room and went till about 2-3am.  (I just know I went to bed late and had to be up for the long day of Saturday.  Once the room was locked, it was time for bed.)

Saturday started way too early for me... (I had to be up for a 10am sound check.)   As for the Saturday concerts, the Toastmaster, Scott Snyder, was good and did a lot of gaming and computer based songs.   He was assisted by Linda Law on bass. One song I really wish that could be shared on the filk archive (its a filk of a commercial song) was a great Doctor Who parody.  I really should listen to his Dodeka tape (and get that into my iPod already..)

Scott was followed by the interfilk guests, Pug & Shaia from Switzerland.  They were wonderful and played a number of instruments including a couple of harps, accordion and keyboard.  I hope to get to see them in concert again at some point in the future.  (I had never heard of them before interfilk brought them to Atlanta.  Which is the point of interfilk.)

Following them was Vixy and Tony, whom I have seen a few of times in concert (and in a couple of cases, online via their coffeehouse concerts).  They included at least one song from their next album (which at least a year away from what they are saying at this time.)

Then I got to get my gafilk exercise challenge...  :)  The 2x10s.   There were some really good songs sung during the 2x10s, but I am blanking on them at this time.  (15 performers, 29 songs)   I do plan to sit down and edit this into separate tracks sooner, rather than later, so if you had a 2x10, check with me in about a month and ask for your songs.  I just looked up the list of performers, thank you [info]team_banzai for the documentation.   Three Weird Sisters did a 2x10 (and I have not seen them as TWS before.)  Also, [info]filkerdave took a turn.  I hope to get some of those songs online at the filk archive soon.http://www.filkarchive.org.uk

I don't do the dinner banquet only because of the volume of Play it With Moxie (and the one year I did attend the music was good.), so I went over to BBQ Kitchen for dinner.  (Walking distance from the hotel, inexpensive, but good food.  [info]filkertom recommended.)

The last concert of the convention, Elise Mattheson was definately a lot of fun.  She did a mixture of of songs and story telling.  100% acapella.  The only issue I have about her concert is that it was too short.  (45 minutes and I suspect she could have gone longer, if she wanted to.)

Interfilk auction was fun.  While I did bid on a couple of things, one of which I would have liked to get, but not wanting to spend that much to get a duplicate set of filk fanzines.   (I need to speak to [info]gorgeousgary about borrowing and possibly scanning them for him via the day job's high speed scanner.)  I did my usual GaFilk donation, recordings of all of the concerts.  I did not have time to pre-print the CD-Rs to say GaFilk 2012 concert.   (I just ran out of time.  I should be doing some pre-printing for Conflikt, but its not going to be all of the concerts, only a couple, chosen at the con.)

Open filk both nights was fun and Saturday night, the alternative filk room went till 5:30am, and the main room closed up around 2:30am or so.  (I unfortunately was not able to hear much of the alternative room due to having to produce about 15 CD-Rs for the performers and the interfilk winners.)

Sunday, as always is more relaxing at GaFilk since there are no concerts., just sound teardown.  (Which went quickly this year.)

The dead dog/jam is always good and the conversations were interesting as well.    Around 12:30am or so, someone was very helpful and turned off the recorders that were still running.  I just wish that someone had said something to me (or the other person who had one still running.)  I do appreciate your turning off the recorders, but letting me know helps, incase more music breaks out, which it did for about two more hours.   A couple of good instrumental jams occurred plus one bit of tired, end of con schtick from [info]bedlamhouse and instumentally backed by a number of people on various instruments including a clarinet, dulcimer, cello, a couple of guitars and I think a fiddle, but I am not sure if [info]sweetmusic_27 was still there till the end.  (I think so.)  Interfilk permission was requested for a copy for Consonance and granted.  (I might pull this out for Conflikt too since [info]bedlamhouse and [info]ladyat are the GOHs.)
